Amazon engages in the provision of online retail shopping and cloud services. The company’s products mainly come from merchandise and content acquired for resale and from stock offered by third-party sellers. As of November 2021, the company has 300 million active users, with an average of 197 million visits each month. Jeffrey P. Bezos founded Amazon in 1994. With its headquarters in Seattle, Washington, the company operates worldwide.

Amazon has three business segments, namely North America, International, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The North America division manages the retail sales of consumer products and online subscriptions through North American-based websites such as amazon.com and amazon.ca. The International division focuses on retail sales and internet subscriptions from all other countries excluding those in North America and targets its audiences via internationally based websites. The Amazon Web Services segment specialises in the worldwide sales and service provision of computers, storage solutions, and databases. This division also manages the offerings for start-up and established companies, government institutions, and academic organisations.

The company covers a wide range of products and web-related services that include electronic devices such as Kindle, Fire tablet, Fire TV, Echo, and Ring. With Amazon Prime, subscribers enjoy free shipping and access to video and television content. Amazon trades on the NASDAQ using the AMZN ticker.
